PETER DEMAKOS, 85, of Stamford passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 21, 2010 at Stamford Hospital. Born on May 17, 1925 in Skoura, Sparta , Greece to the late Stelianos and Arestia Leonard Demakos. Peter served in the Greek Navy and was the past President of the Church of the Archangels Parish Council, AHEPA Member, Archon Order of St. Andrew Apostle of the Ecumenical Patriarch. This Honor is bestowed upon an individual of proven Orthodox Christian character. Peter was also blessed with the medal of St. Paul ,the highest honor that the Archdiocese bestows upon a layman. Never forgetting his beloved homeland and he also served as President of the Skoura-Varvista Brotherhood. Peter will always be remembered as a kind and gentle man. His faith, family and friends was the center of his beautiful life. He will be truly missed by all who knew him and loved him. He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Popi Tsafoulias Demakos of Stamford, his two daughters, Pauline and her husband George Galuris of Stamford, Stella Demakos and her husband Errico Stangel of Athens, Greece and his son George and his wife Lori Demakos of Trumbull, CT. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Joy and Shawn Simao, Dean And Ellen Galuris, Peter Galuris and Kaitlin Demakos, including four great grandchildren, Grace, Samantha, George and Jake Galuris and a sister, Panagiota Tsarkalis of Greece and brother, Nicholas Demakos of Toronto, Canada. Besides his parents, Peter was predeceased by his sister Maria Koromvokis and his brother, Steve Demakos. A Funeral service will be celebrated on Monday, October 25, 2010 at the Church of the Archangels,1527 Bedford Street, Stamford, CT at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery, Stamford. The Rev. Fr. Harry Pappas and the Rev. Fr. George Poulos will be officiating. Friends may call at the Church of the Archangels on Sunday, October 24, 2010 from 3:00-8:00 PM. A prayer service will be held at the Church at 7:00 PM. The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902 is handling arrangements.
